with all the health benefit hype (thanks to young hollywood stars) and stressful lifestyles people need a pick me up and more people are going to spas. Spas are a good investment if you can keep up with the trends, everyone wants to look good and feel good. i go to a spa at least 3 times a month be it a manicure and pedicure, a facial or body wrap. it just makes me feel good after i go.
Call me crazy but it could be related to the baby boomers. Right now, the baby boomer generation are about 37-50 years old and so, their biggest demand right now are health and skin products. The Wellness Industry in short.
Americans are obscessed with health and beauty. ANY such business should make MAD LOOT $$$$ !!!

There are no grants for a for profit business unless you are opening a daycare and then it is a minimal amount. If you need money, you will need to apply for a loan. No lender will talk to you unless you provide them with a valid business plan. How do I get my money back from a spa that went out of business?

Hi, I purchased a package at a spa a few months ago and only used a small portion of it but was planning to use the rest in the next month. I told them this at the time and they assured me there was no problem and no expiration on what I pre-paid for. They sent me an email yesterday saying that they are going out of business. There was no warning, they suddenly just closed yesterday and took my remaining $900 along with them. How can I attempt to get my money back for services that I paid for in advance? You can sue them but if they are bankrupt then you're not going to get anything. The media has been warning about buying gift cards for Christmas for this same reason. if you buy it and the chain goes under (and most times there is no advanced warning) then your out of luck and are not going to get any money back. I would call them and ask about a refund and see what they say. If they say they do not have it if you have proof of what you still have owed to you then you could talk to a lawyer. Aesthetics certification should be sufficient then you can just take 1 or 2 business courses.. an actual degree isnt necessary although it can be helpful.
I would choose accounting because since you will the owner, you will have to keep your own books and pay your taxes. The business degree will give you the basics, but you will have to be specific in your senior year. Accounting is great because you will touch every subject such as bookkeeping, taxes, financial reporting and auditing. If you don't these things yourself, it would be very easy for someone to charge you 250-500 a month to keep your books and another 900 to do your taxes. By doing these things yourself, you save money and keep someone from ripping you off.

You don't NEED a degree to start your own spa. You need ur willpower and ur money to do it. A degree is needed to work for someone else and not for yourself. You may WANT to take a program or courses to educate yourself on parts of the business that u don't know about. Invest your money into ur business instead of ur degree.
My niece attended University of Phoenix at their campus. She obtained her Business Degree while she was working as a manager in a Spa. Before she went to college she obtained her hair styling license and an Estitition License along with a Massage Schooling and licensing.





Currently, she is teaching Spa management at a private college in Florida. She still works along with her husband in the Spa.





The college degree she got there really helped her. I do think that you need work experience along with the degree.

That's true it does seem as though there is a spa on every corner. I think if you did have one it would be a great place to market your products if you were in a direct selling company. I am a distributor of a health beverage and I would love to get my product in a spa. To do that I would have to have the owner join me as a distributor, but I would still benefit from her sales, and she would to quite well, considering she has the clients coming to her, and is not having to look for them.

You can't. Her selling the business has nothing to do with your contract with her.





If that business sells, then you have something to discuss.

It is the same as a building that is going to change ownership by way of a sale. The new owner expects there rent as the old owner.

no, i wouldn't go. i don't have the time or the money. i live in florida and can go to the backyard for a tan....i have never been tanning. i have also never has a mani/pedi. it's just not in the budget and even if it was, it's not where i would waste my money! if i had an extra $50. a week, i would save it and go to disney, the daytona 500 or go see a jaguar game.What do moms' think about a spa/tanning/daycare business?
I like this idea! I am a young Mom myself (22) and I LOVE getting my mani/pedi too although I quit tanning because of all the recent studies. If you are looking at a ';spa'; atmosphere you would have to make sure that the people are not being disturbed from the noise of the kids. How about making the ';daycare'; soundproof or on another floor? Then wherever the Moms are getting their mani/pedi/tanning/massage they are able to keep an eye on the kids and daycare workers via camera?

Should I buy a spa & salon business in this economy?

I have the opportunity to purchase a salon and spa. The owner inherited the business two years ago. It's not his core skill, and now he wants out, which he's selling at a great price. This business has all factors going for it: five star reviews on Citysearch, an established client base, a downtown location with core residents and tons of walk-by traffic. The business is fully built and successfully running now; I just walk in and take it over. The business itself is running financially at break-even. The business is 50% hair and 50% day spa, of beauty and massage.





Part of me is eager for this. Since the current owner has been only half involved, there's lot of opportunity for new services and new marketing to increase sales.





The other part of me say, ';What, this is nuts!'; Buying this sort of business in this economy, which will probably get worse in 2009, will most likely loose money. When unemployment goes up, ladies will hardly be in the mode to get manicures.





So, any thoughts on purchasing a Salon and Spa business?Should I buy a spa %26amp; salon business in this economy?

SIMS Open for Business- Beauty Salon and Spa?

I open a salon and spa in the game and I was under the impression that I would be doing sims' hair and makeup etc and making them over. However, there doesn't seem to be an option for this!?? They just go straight out to the spas. And when I try to click on the mirrors and benches nothing comes up... Is it because I got rid of the old ratty looking brown barber shop chairs that were in there originally? Are these chairs required to makeover the customers?

yeah sadly you do neet to use the ratty old barber chairs, you need to get your sim to be a stylist by click the barber chair and then click on a chair then select ';offer makeover to sim'; thens select the sims name and then they will come over and sit in the chair, your sim wil then performa make over, during the make over it will either have another screen pop up where you can change the customer sims hair and makup


but sometimes if your hairdresser sim is only a newbie, they will sometimes stuff the make over up and put make up like a clown all over the customer sims face, if this happens you just have to keep trying to offer a makeover ot that sim until you get the window with the apperance changer like the hair and makeup

I really never did the whole Beauty Salon thing, but I think that you need to leave those chairs as they are required, also maybe it's best to leave the spa out for right now and see if the Sims are only attracted to the spa. Sometimes if you take an object away they will go to do other things like go get their hair or makeup done. Also the Sims seem to love to use the spa.

How can I get back into the spa business?

I am a lisenced esthetician and makeup artist. I love doing it. But last year I lost my job, and in this economy, the only job I could find was as a bank teller. It mostly depends upon what people's attitudes are about dogs. Are they pests and vermin? Are they toys for rich people? or are they companion beings for everyone?





Different societies treat dogs different. In the USA, most people love their dogs like their own children. Same in Europe, but a little more civilized.


In China recently, a small outbreak of rabies occured and locals killed 50,000 dogs. People's pets were literally beaten to death in front of them. Ignorance breeds violence.

I think it depends on how much money you make per year. My mom owned a small business and it was considered non profit for the first five years. I don't know the laws in your state, we're in Texas. She got to deduct everything she bought for the business. She didn't have to pay taxes on anything she spent out of her pocket. There are some other benefits such as being able to buy supplies wholesale. Have you ever worked in a spa? You should never start a business that you have not already worked in as there is a lot to learn by working in that kind of business first. Are people allowed to operate in home spas in your city or state? People will go for a manicure run out of a home or a massage service, but I do not think they would go to a spa like that.
